After narrowly losing to 8th-ranked Terre Haute South last week, the Delta boys’ varsity tennis team outplayed 13th-ranked Fort Wayne Carroll on Tuesday night. The Eagles won 4-1 at the neutral Norwell High School site.

Delta, ranked 19th, improved to 10-3 with the win. The Eagles will host Pendleton Heights at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Senior Night contest.

Against Carroll, the Eagles won at No. 2 singles, No. 3 singles and both doubles positions by a combined score of 48 games won and just 14 games lost.

First off the court was No. 3 singles sophomore Tanner Southerland, who cruised 6-0, 6-1. Next off was the No. 1 doubles team of senior Joel Ashman and sophomore Brandon Jackson, who also were dominant in a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

Moments later, Delta extended the advantage to 4-0 as No. 2 singles player, senior Ben Bamidele, won 6-3, 6-4 and the No. 2 doubles team, junior Mason Knight and sophomore Michael Curtis, won 6-0, 6-4.

Fort Wayne Carroll’s lone point came at No. 1 singles, where Luke Stoffel defeated senior Tannon Dishman 6-4, 6-3.

The JV team won 5-3 as the Eagles swept the top five positions. The teams agreed to play all doubles to ensure getting the match completed before dark.

Winning for the JV were Cade Brown/Jaigen Glaze; Ben Slavin/Walker Boyle; Daniel Vencel/Riley Windsor; Josef Zacek/Devin McKinley; and Sam Arnold/Eli Arnold.
