The Delta boys’ varsity tennis team beat Kokomo and Lebanon on Saturday while losing to 15th-ranked West Lafayette. The Eagles now stand at 10-2 for the season.

Delta, ranked 26th, started the day with a 5-0 shutout over the host Kokomo Wildkats. Kokomo was short-handed with three of its top players missing the match. The key result was at No. 1 doubles, where Cade Brown and Mason Knight won a third-set tiebreaker to knock off Kokomo’s top player and his doubles partner.

In Round 2, Delta extended West Lafayette in several positions before falling 4-1. The Eagles lost third-set tiebreakers at both doubles positions. Brandon Jackson won his match at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 7-5.

In the final round, Delta gained a 4-1 victory over Lebanon. The No. 1 singles match was nip-and-tuck with Lebanon’s Michael Wright battling Delta’s Tanner Southerland. Tanner won the first set 6-0, then Michael rallied to win the second set 6-2, forcing a third-set TB. Lebanon won the tiebreaker, 10-8.

Delta also won the JV tournament by amassing 25 points. West Lafayette was second at 23 points.

Next up for the Eagles is a dual match at Yorktown at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.
