Delta’s dominance of the boys’ tennis sectional continued Thursday evening as the Eagles shut out Yorktown 5-0 in the semifinals,
The Eagles (17-3) next will face Muncie Burris at 11 a.m. Saturday as they pursue their 27th consecutive sectional championship.
Delta, ranked 23rd, limited the Tigers to only 10 games, with the closest set being 6-2.
Junior Tanner Southerland won his sixth straight match at No. 1 singles by beating Yorktown senior Joey Ulrich, 6-2, 6-0. Southerland is now 14-9 for the season and has 49 career varsity victories.
Junior Brandon Jackson defeated Yorktown junior Mason Minniear 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Jackson improved to 20-3 for the season.
Senior Daniel Vencel won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles over Yorktown senior Paul Eaton. Vencel is now 16-6 this fall.
In both doubles matches, Delta won 6-2, 6-1. Seniors Mason Knight and Cade Brown improved to 16-6 by beating Yorktown senior Isaac Stachler and freshman Ethan Darby at the top spot. Senior Jaigen Glaze and sophomore Walker Boyle won at No. 2 over Yorktown senior Chase Creviston and freshman Raphael Sabijon. Glaze is 16-3 and Boyle is 15-3 this fall.
The winner of Saturday’s match will advance to the Marion Regional next Tuesday and Wednesday.
