Connersville Cross Country Invitational on 9/23
The Delta girls were able to win the team competition with just 56 points. Only East Central and Centerville kept close, just 6 points and 10 points behind respectively. Fourth fell off to 129 points and 243 for 10th place. Nicki Southerland was the easy winner and Makayla Robles ran an excellent race to capture runner-up honors, running 19 seconds faster than last year when she won the race. Ashleigh Brelage was 10th, Shannyn Cox 13th, and Olivia Bohanon 36th as the other scoring team members. As it was the most challenging course the Eagles have run this season, coupled with warmer temperatures, times were slower than usual for most of the field. However, Libby Crouch had a great day running her season best time and well below her performance there last year.
The Delta boys were fifth of the 11 full teams, just two points out of fourth. It was close competition for the first five teams as only 38 points separated the Eagles from first and just 19 points out of 2nd, while the sixth place team was 60 points behind Delta. The last place team trailed by 171 points. Clay Batio led the team with a wonderful display of pacing throughout the race, moving up the entire time, and nipping a runner at the end to earn fourth place overall. Lucas Fox finished 10th in the 105 person field. Clay Bragg, Caden Clark, and Riley Brand packed it in close together in 25th, 27th, and 30th to complete the team scoring. Brady Mynatt ran a smart race and had a season best, despite a tougher course. While no other personal best times were set, several team members likely ran their most competitive run for the year when considering the average loss in time due to the course and conditions. Those runners were Batio, Clark, Brand, Evan Reno, Javin Kile, and AJ lewman. In addition, Batio, Clark, Kile, and Lane Decker each had a forty or more second improvement from last year’s race.
