Delta History Made Krejsa places at state!
Delta wrestling history was made last Friday when sophomore Anna Krejsa traveled to the Kokomo Coliseum. She competed in the Indiana High School Girls Wrestling State Finals at 126 lbs. She is Delta’s first girl to compete in the tournament.
Anna competed along with 130 other prequalified Indiana girl wrestlers from a north and south regional.
The top four placers per weight class in each regional moved on to the state finals to battle it out for the championships.
Kresja’s first match of the evening was with Sarah Dix, an experienced wrestler from Pendalton Hieghts.
Anna kept her focus and defeated Dix with a 3-1 decision moving her on to the semi finals.
Kresja’s semi final match drew experienced and eventual state champion Katie Mattingly from Carmel. Anna battled hard through out the match but was overpowered by Mattingly ending in a 10-3 decision.
Her next match came in the consolations against #1 ranked Belmont’s Andrea Hernandez.
Krejsa had lost in the North Regional finals to Hernandez the week prior by a fall in the first period.
Both wrestlers came out strong and kept the pressure on through out the match keeping the score tight.
Kresja went the distance but lost in the final few seconds in the 3rd period by a takedown …final score 12-10.
Kresja has only been wrestling for 7 months but her focus, relentless drive, and work ethic has earned her elite status in Indiana’s girls wrestling community!
Her 4th place state finish will hopefully inspire more Delta girls to get involved into this great sport!
