Game 1 Recap
Delta and Yorktown traded the lead back-and-forth on Saturday, but eventually, the Eagles prevailed 8-7. The game was tied at three with Delta batting in the top of the seventh when Charlie May doubled, driving in two runs. Delta would build a 5 run lead in the seventh that they would need as Yorktown scored 4 in the bottom of the 7th. Wesley Woodin had a great sacrifice bunt in the 7th inning to give Delta their 6th run. Woodin was 3-4 in the game offensively with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Jadon Henry also had multiple hits with 2 singles.
Game 2 Recap
With the Eagles facing a 4-1 deficit in the bottom of the 6th, the offense exploded for 6 runs. The inning got started with a first-pitch single off pitcher Jake Van Pelt’s bat, 2 walks later Daleville’s starting pitcher Nick Williams was forced out of the game. Following the pitching change, Delta put on an offensive display by bunting and hitting the ball all over the field to score the 6 runs. The lead of 7-4 would hold as Van Pelt finished off the gutsy pitching performance by forcing the last hitter into a 5-3 groundout to win the county championship. With the Championship win, Van Pelt now has a Sectional Championship and a County Championship win on his pitching resume.
On the day the Eagles scored 15 runs, tallied 17 hits, had 3 successful suicide squeeze bunts, and 8 different Eagles tallied hits and RBI. All in all, it was a great Championship day for Delta.
The Eagles will look to continue their hot offensive production and winning today against Jay County on the road at 5:00 pm.
