Delta will host the eight-team Delta Invitational girls’ tennis tournament on Saturday, April 29 — unless Mother Nature says no.
The 17th-ranked Eagles (8-1) will battle in a strong field that includes 10th-ranked Fort Wayne Carroll and 16th-ranked Hamilton Southeastern.
The invitational begins at 8:45 a.m. Saturday with matches at Delta and at Yorktown.
At Delta, the host Eagles will face Brown County, also the Eagles, in an 8:45 a.m. opener. FW Carroll and Muncie Burris also play at the same time.
At Yorktown, the host Tigers will face Warsaw, also the R=Tigers, in an 8:45 a.m. opener. Hamilton SE and Madison-Grant also play at the same time.
Semifinal rounds are planned for 11:15 a.m., with final rounds starting after 2 p.m.
A strong chance of rain could put a damper on the day’s action. Last year’s tournament unfortunately was rained out.
Next week, Delta continues a busy schedule. The Eagles travel to Yorktown on Tuesday evening for the annual SmashCancer match at 4:30 p.m. They then travel to rival Marion on Wednesday and to Pendleton Heights on Thursday before hosting last year’s State Runner-Up South Bend St. Joseph’s on Saturday.
