The sixth annual SmashCancer girls’ tennis match between rivals Delta and Yorktown will be Tuesday, May 2 at the Yorktown courts.
This match annually raises funds for three local cancer organizations: the Cancer Center at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital; the Little Red Door Cancer Services of East Central Indiana, and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. More than $20,000 has been raised during the first five SmashCancer matches between Delta and Yorktown.
This year’s event again promises to be special. The opening ceremony will be 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and will feature several Server Survivors who will hit out honorary first serves. In addition, the Little Red Door has helped match several cancer patients with DHS and YHS players for the event. Both teams will attend a pre-match dinner at the Cancer Center on Monday night, May 1 in which they will do a large craft project together and will play a trivia game called “Cancer: Kick Your Ace.”
Several items of apparel are on sale at Delta and Yorktown schools and will be available at the match. Short-sleeve and long-sleeve cotton t-shirts in nine different colors are available for $10 and $13, respectively. Single-color tie-dye t-shirts also are available in short and long sleeve styles in multiple colors for $14 and $16, respectively. Crewneck sweatshirts in nine colors are on sale for $15.
Orders will be taken through May 4.
